Fairwater Labs–a leading venture studio in the dual-use technology space–is launching an innovative medtech startup developing a cutting-edge platform that leverages Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) technology for use by providers in trauma care, emergency departments, and intensive care units. Our mission is to revolutionize the medical industry by delivering groundbreaking solutions that enhance patient care, optimize medical workflows, and save lives.
This business effort will serve both civilian and military healthcare providers. By integrating advanced algorithms and real-time data analysis, our solution aims to disrupt traditional medical practices, offering unprecedented accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility. The R&D effort for the technologies used in the core product has been conducted by an award-winning research team at a major university, which substantially de-risks the business effort from the outset.
Position Overview
We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Co-Founder & Business Lead to own and lead this effort. This is an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of healthcare technology, build a world-class team, and guide a pioneering company towards market leadership. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of business acumen, medical knowledge and/or sales experience, and entrepreneurial spirit. You will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company, driving product development, securing funding, building out the team, and managing key partnerships.
Must Haves:
Proven Leadership: Experience in a high-growth company, with significant leadership experience in product development, customer acquisition, and scaling business models. Proven entrepreneurs, executives, and/or senior business development specialists with a track record of scaling/maturing startups are encouraged to apply.
Business Acumen: Strong background in business strategy, operations, sales, and financial management, with at least a fundamental understanding of the medtech industry.
Medical Knowledge: Understanding of the healthcare landscape in the United States (and an eagerness to learn more every day), including regulatory environments, clinical workflows, and the needs of medical providers in commercial and military applications.
Fundraising Experience: Demonstrated success in raising capital (e.g. exposure to venture capital fundraising).
Entrepreneurial Spirit: A positive, hands-on, results-oriented approach with a passion for innovation and disruption. Proven ability to be resilient in the face of challenges.
Nice to Haves:
Military Background: Experience in or strong understanding of the defense sector, particularly in relation to healthcare applications and dual-use technologies.
Medical Background: Clinical experience or formal medical education, providing insight into the end-user perspective and enhancing credibility with stakeholders. MDs, DOs, and/or candidates with significant exposure to the medical community are encouraged to apply.
Medical Device Sales: Experience in the sales, production, and/or commercialization of medical devices, with a network of industry contacts and a deep understanding of the sales cycle.
FDA Approval Process: Familiarity with regulatory pathways, particularly the FDA approval process for medical devices, including SaMD.
Non-Dilutive Government Funding: Experience securing non-dilutive funding through mechanisms such as SBIR, STTR, or other government grants and contracts.
